Meet Your Board of Education
My wife Karen and I have been married for 24 years and have lived in the district for the past 20 years. We have three kids: Jake (graduate of RPS and currently a junior at Grand Valley State), Sam (18 and currently a senior at RHS), and Kaili (12 and currently a 7th grader at North Rockford Middle School). I have been a police officer for 28 years and have been in the public service my whole life. I have enjoyed my time on the Board of Education and look forward to many more years of serving the Rockford Community. I have always considered it an honor and privilege to be elected to the Board of Education.
I was appointed to the Board in October 2004. My wife Kellie and I are proud parents of Hannah, a junior at Rockford High School. I graduated from Western Michigan University, obtained my Juris Doctorate from Wayne State University and have a Masters of Science in Taxation from Grand Valley State University. I am the Vice President and General Counsel at Ferris State University. My wife, Kellie, is also a lawyer and a partner in the firm Ryan, Podein, Postema & Westgate. Currently, I enjoy my family time, bird hunting and photography.
I’d like to thank you for the opportunity to serve, as well as your continued support. My wife Deb and I have three children: David, Grant and Ryleigh. David is in medical school at Michigan State University, Grant is a sophomore at Central Michigan University, and Ryleigh is in 10th grade at the High School. I have lived in Rockford since 1990 and my wife has been a lifelong resident. My educational and professional background includes a B.B.A. from Grand Valley State University and a Juris Doctorate from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. I am currently employed as in-house legal counsel for Dematic Corp. My interests include golf, basketball, running, boating and spending time with my family.
I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve our school district in this capacity. Originally from New Mexico, I have grown to love this wonderful community of Rockford since my husband Mike and I relocated here in 1995. We have two daughters: Rachel, a 2015 graduate of Rockford High School and currently attending St. Mary’s College at Notre Dame, and Claudia, a junior, at Rockford High School. I earned my B.S. in Finance from New Mexico State University. I currently work as a federal tax manager for Crowe Horwath LLP and have been with this firm for 18 years. In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, playing golf, and family road trips.
I have been a resident of Rockford since 1997 after my husband Dave and I relocated from the Chicago area. We have two daughters: Rebecca, a 2013 graduate of Rockford High School, and Amanda, a Freshman at the Rockford Freshman Center. I graduated from Michigan State University in 1987 and worked in advertising for 15 years prior to going into real estate in 2002. I am currently a real estate agent with Greenridge Realty. In my spare time, I enjoy biking on the White Pine Trail, cross country and downhill skiing, and golf. I am passionate about education and being an advocate for Rockford Public Schools students and all public school students - both at the state and national level.
I am a mother of three daughters. Anne, our oldest, is a 2003 graduate of Rockford High School and lives in Boston and is completing her doctorate in Theology at Boston University. Renee is a sophomore at Michigan State University studying veterinary sciences, and Eve is a freshman at University of Michigan. Yes, we are a house divided!! I am the former owner of Kindermusik of Rockford and Grand Rapids, LLC, and I hold a Masters of Arts in teaching from Oakland University in Rochester, MI. My husband and I enjoy both participating and being spectators in a variety of cultural events, and love spending time as a family reading, singing, playing games, and re-grouping at our cabin.
I tell people the Rockford School Board, school finance and school improvement have become my second career. My professional career is with Farmers Specialty Insurance/Foremost where I am employed as a product manager for recreational vehicle insurance. I am currently serving my fourth term on the Board and beginning my 21st school year in 2014-15. I am a 30-year resident of the Rockford area. My wife, Diane, is a retired sixth grade teacher, and my married son, Tyler, is a 2001 RHS and 2006 Taylor University, Indiana graduate. Currently he teaches and coaches at Snider High School in the Fort Wayne, Indiana Community Schools.
