Rockford Public Schools is dedicated to the safety of its students, employees, and community. Each school building is provided with information on products used in the facility that may be of concern. Each Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) on file presents the ingredients of the product, the potential hazards, and recommendations if exposure occurs.
The Material Safety Data Sheets under the "Right to Know" regulations are available for inspection during normal business hours by contacting the Facilities and Operations Office at 616.863.6330. They are also located in the custodial office and/or the main office of every building.
Rockford Public Schools is required under the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) of 1987 to notify parents and employees of the availability of a management plan and inform them of the activities conducted under the management plan.
The required three-year reinspection was conducted in April of 2009. This inspection indicated all asbestos in district buildings is in a safe, non-friable condition. All of the asbestos is properly protected and there is no exposure present. Rockford Public Schools follows the regulations set forth in EPA 40 CFR Part 763 – Asbestos-Containing Materials in Buildings and complies with the inspection process set forth in EPA 40 CFR Part 763, Parts 1, 2, 3 and OSHA 29 CFR Parts 1910 and 1926.
