Welcome to Rockford Public Schools

The Rockford Public Schools District, which is fully accredited and state and nationally recognized as a Blue Ribbon District of Excellence, is located ten miles northeast of Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Board of Education and staff are committed to providing a world-class education for all students.

Our exemplary educational system is a result of the collaborative efforts of parents, students, school, and community. Together, we are providing opportunities for students to reach their full potential by placing emphasis on local, state, and national curriculum standards, a strong character education program, and a variety of after-school learning opportunities.

Academic Programs

The RPS curriculum is based upon standards that promote rigor and relevance. These standards set high expectations and are based upon the belief that all students will succeed. Some students will need additional time and support, but all students will learn and experience success. Students will learn content that will be relevant to their future plans, whether it be post-secondary education or the work force.

As we prepare students for the global economy, we place emphasis on collaboration, problem solving, creativity, and technology skills. In addition, we recognize the importance of our students learning a second language. Currently, we have an elementary Spanish Immersion program and, at the secondary level, we offer four-year programs in French, German, Spanish, Japanese, and Mandarin Chinese.

Our guaranteed diploma means that students are provided the necessary skills to be successful in the 21st Century.

After-School Opportunities

Students can choose to participate in a variety of co-curricular activities, with approximately 30 club sports/intramurals, award-winning fine arts, or one of over 30 interscholastic athletic teams. The district supports participation in co-curricular activities to balance adolescent development.

Character Education

At Rockford Public Schools, character education is an important part of the total educational program. Working together with parents, we are creating schools that develop responsible and caring students. Beginning with pre-school all the way through adult education, we emphasize the importance of a common set of character traits that include friendship, respect, trust, citizenship, commitment, the value of diversity, and other life skills. The Rockford Public Schools' staff model these traits every day.

“Intelligence and character – that is the goal of true education”
