Rockford Montessori is a preschool and kindergarten that encourages children to develop intellectually, physically and emotionally to their full potential. We are committed to providing a facility for children that will offer materials and experiences which will be enriching to all students. Montessori philosophy encompasses a belief that a child learns best and develops self confidence when left to progress at their own pace. This development is aided by an environment of materials which encourage the acquisition of basic skills - whether they are mathematical, motor, or linguistic. Children find that self-discovery is a rewarding and exciting way to learn about the world around them. We have found that this environment reinforces self-respect, as well as respect for each other, a love of learning, an ability to make intelligent and responsible choices, to concentrate and focus, and to do one's best to complete a task to the satisfaction of one's self, rather than to please someone else.
Morning and afternoon sessions for three to six year olds meet five days a week. The morning session meets from 8:30-11:30 am, and the afternoon from 12:00-3:00 pm. Children are introduced to a variety of areas of learning, including practical living skills, sensory education, language, math, science and cultural activities, art, music, and movement. Hands-on activities are designed to help the young child develop a sense of order, concentration, coordination, and independence in a joyful, child-centered community. Our school year runs September to June. Children must be completely toilet trained. All of our staff are trained in CPR and first aid.
