On May 6, 2014, the Rockford community approved a $76.1 million bond proposal for capital improvement projects. This levy results in a net zero mill increase and, due to previously retired bonds, the RPS debt retirement millage remains at 8.5 mills. THE BOND WILL FOCUS ON THREE MAIN AREAS:


SCHOOL SAFETY

  • Remodel school entry ways to improve security
  • Install shatterproof glass on all first floor windows in district
  • Enhance classroom lockdown capabilities
  • Add additional security cameras and lighting
  • Improve traffic flow at Roguewood and Rockford Freshman Center/Rockford High School

CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS

  • Add and/or remodel large group instruction rooms at East RMS, North RMS, Freshman Center and Rockford High School
  • Address interior needs, including carpet, paint, ceilings, electrical/lighting, plumbing, HVAC, boilers and water heaters
  • Address exterior needs, including improvements to parking lots and paved areas, and older roof replacements
  • Upgrade high school performing arts center to include orchestra/ band room addition and renovate/upgrade auditorium
  • Expand fitness center at the high school to allow for increased instructional opportunities and community use
  • Expand auxiliary gym and turf field for instructional, recreation and cocurricular use


    TECHNOLOGY

    • Upgrade technology to support 21st Century learning by providing technology tools to teachers, students, and staff
    • Expand internet accessibility throughout district, including Wi-Fi capabilities
    • Upgrade data management system for improved student assessment
