On May 6, 2014, the Rockford community approved a $76.1 million bond proposal for capital improvement projects. We appreciate the community’s support and are excited what the future holds for Rockford Public Schools and our students.
A large component of the 2014 Bond issue was the need to improve and expand the district’s infrastructure and technology equipment. Summer was a busy time as we upgraded the district’s phone system. Assessments were also done on the current network and operating systems. Upgrades were proposed and approved by the Board of Education for the district’s network firewall as well as upgrades to our server inventory and operating software/licensing. Improving the capacity and performance of our infrastructure will result in improved teaching and learning opportunities for our staff and students.
As we prepared for the start of the school year, equipment to upgrade the high school lab and RCTV’s studio equipment and graphic arts software was purchased. In addition, student devices were purchased to address the educational needs of our special education students. With the new orchestra program starting at the middle schools, storage casework was ordered and installation will be completed in December.
Improvements to the outside lighting at the High School and the Freshman Center are currently being finished; new boilers were installed at Lakes Elementary, North Rockford Middle School and East Rockford Middle School. Planning is underway for the security vestibules at all buildings and final designs will be completed in the near future.
