Kent Intermediate School District
Collaborative Schools of Choice Program

Rockford Public Schools participates in a collaborative schools of choice program administered through the Kent Intermediate School District. To be eligible, a family must reside in one of the twenty KISD school districts. Once a student is accepted under the Schools of Choice Program, they do not need to apply each year.

The initial application period for the 2010-11 school year is April 12-June 4, 2010. If openings are still available after this time, students will be accepted up to the first day of school.  During these application periods, participating districts automatically release students to attend another KISD school district; however, acceptance into a requested district is based upon availablility at that district.  See information on Rockford's participation in the 2010-11 program.

While families are encouraged to apply through schools of choice to change districts, we realize there are sometimes circumstances which necessitate mid-year transfers. Such requests can be made by submitting a Section 106 application to your resident district. If approved, this is then submitted to your district of choice for consideration. Both districts must approve the application in order for the student to transfer. Section 106 transfers are valid for the current school year only.
