September Topics

Review Algebra Topics: Reflexive, Symmetric, Transitive, Distributive , Commutative , Associative, Multiplicative inverse property, Power to a Power rule, Distributive Property of Exponentiation, Multiplying and dividing variables with exponents, Altitude to Hypotenuse Theorem, Pythagorean Theorem, Groups of right triangles (the Automatics), Introduction to basic constructions: Perpendicular bisector, center of a circle, Angle bisector, Daisy Wheels, Basic proof form (what and why,)

 

October Topics

Begin Corresponding Parts of Congruent Triangles are Congruent CPCTC proofs Side Side Side , Side Angle Side, Angle Side Angle, (SSS, SAS, ASA) is indeterminent. Area of Polygons: quadrilaterals, triangles, and n sided regular polygons using the apothem and formula, circles, sectors, and segments, ratio of areas. Similar figures theorem proofs using CPCTC.  More constructions: right triangles, copying triangles, medians, altitudes, and angle bisectors.

 

November Topics

More proofs using CPCTC.  Finding the length of a missing side using theorems of congruence.  Surface area and volume of prisms, pyramids, and spheres.   Lines in a plane (co-planar).  Proofs involving lines in a plane and intersections. Transversals, alternate interior and exterior angles, corresponding angles when parallel lines are cut by a transversal. More constructions:  parallel lines, perpendicular lines

 

December Topics

Coordinate geometry, more constructions: orthocenter, incenter, midsegments. Pythagorean Theorem with applications, coordinate graphing, solving systems of equations, inequalities, both linear and quadratic using various methods including graphing, the multiplication addition algorithm, and substitution methods. Graphing circles, tessellations.

 

January & February  Topics

MEAP test will be given.   Arcs of circles and applied problems. Angles of circles central, inscribed.   More lines in a plane, proofs involving circles.  More constructions:  tangents and perpendicular bisectors of chords.  More tessellations: constructing tessellations. More constructions: regular polygons in a circle.  Similarity and congruence of polygons. Congruent chords in circles, arc length. More constructions in circles.  Proofs for congruence and similarity, indirect proof.

 

 

March   Topics

Function notation f(x), g(x), fog, gof notations. Graphing non-linear functions, inscribed and circumscribed polygons. The power theorems related to tangent, secant, and chord segments in circles.

April   Topics

Introduction to trigonometric functions. Trig ratio definitions:  Sin, Cos, Tan, basic ratios of special triangles (30, 60, 45, 90, and 0 degrees).  Factoring and graphing.   Domain and range with more function notation.   More constructions.

 

 

May   Topics

Circles, distance formula, midpoint formula and supplement with trig equations.  Trigonometry identities . Law of Sin.  Law of Cos.  Pythagorean identity. Practical problems.
