MEDIA RELEASE – July 10, 2019

On Monday, July 8, 2019, the RPS Board of Education held its annual reorganization meeting. The 2019-20 Board of Education officers and trustees are as follows:

Timothy J. Lewis, President
Miles J. Postema, Vice President
Bobbi Jo Blanton, Treasurer
Geoff L. Downs, Secretary
Laura L. Featherston, Trustee
Lisa M. Kreager, Trustee
Nick Reichenbach, Trustee

The Board also decided to pilot a new meeting structure for the 2019-20 school year, finding this to be an optimal time to explore alternatives due to the Administration/Board of Education offices undergoing construction.

In the past, the Board held its regular monthly meetings at 7:30 p.m. on each the second and fourth Mondays at the Administration Building.  Unless otherwise posted, starting in September 2019, the Board will hold its meetings at the Rockford Freshman Center (4500 Kroes) as follows:

Second Monday at 6:00 p.m.:  the Board will hold work sessions to conduct committee work and receive reports

Fourth Monday at 6:30 p.m.:  the Board will hold its regular meetings to take action on business items

Board of Education meeting schedules are posted on the district website and at all buildings.  Board meetings are held in compliance with the Open Meetings Act (Act 267 of the Public Acts of 1976), which requires that all meetings of a “public body at which a quorum is present for the purpose of deliberating toward or rendering a decision”[i] be open to the public unless otherwise specified in the Act.

Following the 2019-20 pilot, the Board of Education will decide whether to continue with the same meeting format for subsequent years.
