Student appreciation Week

March 23-27

We are excited to celebrate our students March 23-27 during Student Appreciation Week! It is an event that we look forward to and a great opportunity to show the Class of 2029 how special they are. We will organize a daily activity to celebrate (ex: playing Bingo at lunch). Additionally, students collect raffle tickets throughout the week for appreciated actions and attitudes. At the end of the week, they can enter their tickets into raffle(s) for items they’d like to win. It is a ton of fun! Staff provide some of the prizes and we also utilize monetary donations collected at orientation in August. If you would like to contribute prizes to bolster the raffle, please use the link below to sign up.

Academic Letter Ceremony

RHS and RFC recognize students who earn 3.5 or greater GPA in two or more trimesters in a single school year through the Academic Letter. Students who earned the letter based on trimesters 1 and 2 received a paper invitation in the mail the week of March 2. Students who earn this recognition at the end of the year will receive a certificate and Academic Letter in the mail this summer.

The ceremony begins at 1:30 p.m. on March 25 and is held in the gym of RFC (invitation only). Students are dismissed at 12:30 and are asked to meet in the cafeteria for instructions at 1:00 p.m. Any student who requires bus transportation after the ceremony should notify Dr. Kelly Amshey no later than Friday, March 20. Any student who does not plan to participate may notify the main office by Friday, March 20.

Parent attendance is optional. If you choose to attend, here are some notes:

  • Please do not arrive prior to 1:00 p.m.
  • Please park in the west lot (parent loop lot) and enter through the west set of doors by the gym.
  • Please find a seat in the bleachers when you arrive.
  • We have limited seating. As such, we ask that no more than two visitors attend per student. We also ask that you fill in the bleacher rows (i.e. don't leave large gaps between parties).
  • At the conclusion, parents may meet up with their student and take photos if you wish. You will take your student home.

A School Bookings Link will be shared in mid-April. We hope to see you for spring conferences!

career exploration Day

Wednesday, March 18th from 12:00-2:30 is RFC Career Exploration Day at RFC. To support high school students as they consider future career goals, we are inviting professionals from the community into the building. All freshmen will have the opportunity to hear from four different career speakers. Students will choose these in RtI Scheduler during 1st hour on Monday. We have great appreciation to the professionals in our community who are volunteering their time for this event. THANK YOU!

PSAT Information

Rockford Freshman Center students participate in state testing on April 22, 2026. Michigan utilizes the PSAT 8/9 and this information provides the state with information about student achievement across schools but also provides invaluable information to each school regarding strengths and areas for growth. PSAT is a trusted standardized test authored by College Board. In Michigan, students take the PSAT in grades 8, 9 and 10. In 11th grade, students take the SAT and multiple additional assessments.

April 22 is a scheduled early dismissal for students. Most students will complete the PSAT 8/9 between 10:30-11:00 a.m. Students are welcome to leave campus when their test room is dismissed if they have a ride home. Students who require a bus home will remain at RFC until the busses arrive at normal early dismissal time between 12:30 and 1:00 p.m.

Many freshmen may already have an account with College Board. Parents and guardians are encouraged to engage with their student at home to:

  1. Ensure your student has a College Board account.
  2. Review your student's PSAT score from 8th grade (if applicable)
  3. Consider options for strengthening your score through free online tools and resources (available through College Board website.)

Reporting Attendance

RFC and RHS require a parent/guardian phone call for absence reporting.  Please do not send your student with a note. This process helps staff verify the authenticity of the report.  Please call 616-863-6352 to report an absence, late arrival or early departure.

High school students may sign themselves in and out once a parent has called.  Parents/guardians are not required to enter the building to sign the student out.  This is also different than the process used in RPS middle schools.

Parent Advisory Council

Rockford Freshman Center and Rockford High School welcome parents to attend and participate in Parent Advisory Council. PAC meetings are held once per trimester and provide an opportunity for parents/guardians to receive updates about high school activities. Meetings are held virtually in Google Meet and are recorded for those who cannot attend on scheduled date(s) and/or time. We held our tri 3 meeting on March 3. The notes from that meeting are linked below.
