News from Sra. Santillán
Dear Roguewood Families,
It’s hard to believe we’ve entered May and are in the final stretch of the school year!
Our 3rd through 5th graders are finishing up state testing, and we are so proud of how well they are doing. As we wrap up the year, please take a moment to check out our lost and found, located at the front of the school—there are many items looking for their owners!
Don’t miss our Food Truck Fiesta next Friday! This fun, all-school event is a great chance for families to enjoy dinner, games, and community together. I would love to see you there!
❤️

TREE LEGACY PROJECT
Roguewood 5th Graders, participated in planting two native trees close to the entrance of the Roguewoods. This was the grand finale to a year-long project of understanding the value of native plants, research, and planning. I am proud to be a part of this district-wide project that is supported by Justin and Kristina Munsters (Belmont Parents) and Shaner Nursery through donations of trees and planting supplies. Thank you, Mr. Schlaudt, Mr. Murdock, Mrs. Cortes, and Mrs. Coles, for continuing the learning long after my initial native species lesson. The impact of this project is immeasurable!
NexTrex Recycling Challenge
Our school is participating in the NexTrex Recycling Challenge! If we can collect 1,000 pounds of clean, dry, food free plastic waste (shopping bags, newspaper sleeves, plastic mailers, bubble wrap, Ziploc bags, etc.) over the next year, our school will be awarded a composite bench from NexTrex. We plan to start collecting from families next week. There are 3 collection boxes around the school. One is in the office, one is by Mrs. Copeland and the other is at the end of the SI hallway. We will be sending letters and magnets home with information about what can be recycled.
Update on Spikes
We wanted to let you know that our bearded dragon friend, Spikes, hasn’t been feeling very well. After a visit to the vet, we found out that he is sick and needs some special care. A loving family who has experience with Spikes is going to take him home to help take care of him and make sure he’s as comfortable as possible.
We know Spikes has been a special part of our school, and it’s okay to feel sad or have questions. He’s going to a home where he’ll get lots of love and attention, and we’re thankful for all the time we had with him.

Art Night
We’ve been busy creating masterpieces this year, and I’m so proud to showcase all of our artists. Come visit our gallery in Roguewood’s cafeteria on Tuesday, May 27th at 5:00-6:30 p.m. Every student from K-5th grade will have an art piece in the show! Hope to see you there!~Miss Turner
Library Update
All Library books are due back May 9th. If a book is lost by a student or has been damaged, we do ask for replacement cost for the book and certainly understand this can happen. A check payable to RGW Library for the exact amount or exact cash can be sent to take care of this. Please note in the memo, the student’s name and the name of the book that is being paid for.
I have enjoyed my many years in Rockford Schools (22) and am retiring at the end of this school year. I have enjoyed taking care of the beautiful library at RGW, reading to our students and helping them find books they would enjoy to read has truly been a pleasure. I am so thankful for the support throughout the years for our library with the generous donations, book fairs and the countless volunteers who have helped.

Reminders
OFFICE REMINDERS
Absences MUST be called into the office 616.863.6374 or emailed to the front office - jbradley@rockfordschools.org
Please leave a message on our general voicemail box if you are calling after hours. Whether you are reporting an absence on our voicemail or email, the State of Michigan requires us to know the following:
Student's name and teacher
Reason for absence - if it is an illness we need to know the symptoms of the illness - vomiting, coughing, fever, cold, diarrhea, lice - whatever the reason may be
Do You Need to Drop Something Off?
If you have an item that needs to get to a student, simply drop it off on our bookcase in our vestibule and provide the student’s name and classroom on a Post-It note. We will make sure it gets where it needs to go.
NO CELLPHONES OR SMART WATCHES
Students with a cellphone will be asked to turn the phone off and not use them during the school day. Please do not text or call your student on their device during the school day. This creates a distraction to the classroom. These devices should be turned off and stored in the student's locker or backpack. We will always help with communication through the office or an email to the teacher if needed.
Students with Apple watches or other wrist devices are asked not use the device to communicate during the school day.
Students who need to contact home because they are ill or wondering about the end of the day pick up should talk to their classroom teacher who will help them navigate next steps of support.
Devices at school are distracting to students during the learning day and we ask that unless your student needs the device to communicate after school that they stay home.
Thank you for your support.
LABEL EVERYTHING
The winter weather is here, and students are dressing in layers, which means our lost and found will be growing. To avoid your student’s clothing from going into the lost and found PLEASE LABEL EVERYTHING!!! Label all coats, boots, mittens, hats, etc. Labeling items will ensure they will back it back home!
