December 10, 2024 Update

Good afternoon,

Our Rockford Public Schools Board of Education met last night – December 9. Key items that were approved or discussed were the following:

  • Board approval of the authorizing resolution to sell the 3rd series of the 2019 bond
    • The district bond was approved in 2019.
    • The bonds go toward buildings, infrastructure, technology, and buses
    • Bonds do not, and cannot by law, pay for personnel expenses
    • The third series is focused on improvements at the high school, parking lots, media centers, and continued technology and classroom furniture.
    • A bond update can be found on the district website here: **Construction Update: A Year in Review - 2024**
  • RAMS XII update on Pillar 1 – Academic Excellence and Priority 1.A.2 – Tiered Instruction
    • The priority focuses on ensuring that the district responds to the learning needs of every student especially in the areas of English Language Arts and math.
      • The report focused on how our district is implementing support for students throughout the district.
      • Our teaching staff and administration have created time during the day to support students.
        • FLEX time at our elementary buildings
        • WIN and RAM time at the middle schools
      • Students are provided opportunities to relearn material or extend their learning based on their individual needs
    • Our RAMS XII strategic plan can be found on our district website: RAMS XII – Rockford Public Schools
  • Honored Nick Reichenbach for his 8 years of service on the Board of Education. Mr. Reichenbach’s term of service ends at the end of December.

On January 29, 2025, from 5:30 – 8:30 PM, in the Rockford High School auditorium, we are cohosting an event with Sanford Behavioral Health and Forest View Hospital. The event – Eating Disorders: Hiding in Plain Sight – will have both presentations and discussion about this important topic. I have attached a flyer providing more information. Eating Disorders-Hiding in Plain Sight.

We had our first snow day of the year last week. As a reminder snow day messages will go out via School Messenger. Last week I forgot to send a text message and just sent a phone message. In the future, updates will be sent via a phone call and a text. We also contact the local media and post a message on the district website.

Our Collage Concert – band, orchestra, and choir – is Wednesday, December 11, and Thursday, December 12. Tickets are free but must be reserved. The 8:00 PM show on December 12 has the most tickets available right now. Tickets can be reserved here: Ludus - ROCKTIX

Our last school day of December will be December 20.
