Dear Valley View Families,

Thank you to Mr. Powell for another fun filled field day!  Today is a day that students (and staff) look forward to all year.  The weather was perfect and a great time was had by all.  Months of planning was executed perfectly.

Just one week left of our 2025-2026 school year.  Let's make it a great one!

Have a great weekend,

Upcoming events:

June 1: 4th grade field trip
June 2: Kindergarten and 4th grade field trip
June 3: 5th grade field trip
June 4-5: Half days: 11:55am dismissal

Warmly,
Mr. Karel

Peer to peer celebration

Peer to Peer is an evidence-based program taught through GVSU's START Program and enhanced through Kent ISD through Kent Can to support students with autism. Peer to Peer is a great program that encourages all students to connect and make meaningful relationships but is essential for some to learn and develop meaningful relationship and social skills through same age peers. It is not just an evidence-based practice, it is a way of being together that promotes belonging, friendship, and unity through a shared experience. No other “thing” is as broadly impactful, having a lifelong impact on students, families, teachers, schools, and communities.  At the end of the year, we celebrate all their hard work and success through t-shirts, which the older peers get to create through a wonderful grant through Unified Champion Schools. As you'll see in the pictures below, they sure do have a lot of fun!

Summer Tutoring

The school district has provided a list of tutors available this summer. If you are interested, the list of tutors can be found here:

Medication pickup CHANGE

All rescue mediations such as inhalers, EpiPens, and seizure meds will be SENT HOME in student's backpacks unless we hear from parents.  Any daily medication will need to be picked up by a parent or guardian by the last day of school.  Thank you!

Book bus is back!

The Rockford Book Bus is gearing up for another summer of reading adventures.

  • On June 6, you can find the bus in the Start of Summer parade.
  • On June 13, the Book Bus will be welcoming readers at the Rockford Farmer's Market.
  • On June 15, the Book Bus officially starts its travels around the Rockford community, visiting schools, neighborhoods, and daycares.

You will want to have your calendars handy so that you can embrace each week's engaging theme and share the joy of reading with others in our community.

Summer Reading through KDL

Kent District Library (KDL) is excited to announce Summer Wonder 2026! Our summer program includes a special 30-day reading challenge, performers and prizes. It is free for ALL ages. Summer Wonder kicks off on June 1 and goes through August 7. Each completer will receive a special prize plus an entry into a drawing for one of forty $100 Meijer gift cards. Each branch has special prize baskets for all ages, too! Also, each week, KDL will host exciting events, from storytimes to book clubs to dynamic performers. Check out KDL.org/summer to get all the information you need to take part online or on paper.

Looking forward to next year...

Save the date for our school open house.  August 19th, 2026 we will invite grades K, 1, and 3 to visit between 5-6pm.  Grades 2, 4, and 5 are welcome between 6-7pm.  We hope spacing classes this way keeps traffic in our building spread out.  Thanks!
