Edgerton Families,
We have settled in and seem to know the routines and there is a lot of learning and smiles around the building. The past two weeks I have had the opportunity to meet with all students in grade level meetings. We have read stories and talked about our RAMS expectations (Responsible, Accountable, Motivated and Safe). Students are earning Ram Tickets that they use at the school store or in a raffle (DK, K and 1st grade).
Our first early release day was this week and our teachers used this time to work together in their grade level teams to plan instruction based on student needs and assessment outcomes. By using current student data, teachers can adjust instruction for all learners and ensure all students reach their potential.
Next week we will meet for our CAT (Collaborative Action Team) to determine placement of students in our RTI (Response to Intervention) program which offers reading support.

Parade: 1:30 at Edgerton Trails-around the school. Parents and families are invited.
Party time: TBD and will be communicated next week.
This year at each of the three parties 5 parents will have an opportunity to attend. We are working on finalizing the party times and will communicate the times and the Sign Up Genius next week. We look forward to having parents at Edgerton for the Hallowenn Party (and Holiday Party and Valentine Party).
The Field Trip and Fun Pass
Instead of paying for multiple events and activities throughout the year, The Edgerton Trails PTO bundles many of the most popular student activities into on convenient payment. The Field Trip and Fun Pass provides a one payment opportunity for each grade.
The Pass includes the following:
- All grade level field trips
- Class t-shirt
- Monthly popcorn days
- Mileage Club (Grades 2-5)
2026-27 Fees:
Fees differ based on the individual grade level field trips and the admission and transportation costs.
- Developmental Kindergarten: $30.00
- Kindergarten: $35.00
- 1st grade: $25.00
- 2nd grade: $30.00
- 3rd grade: $60.00
- 4th grade: $75.00
- 5th grade: $80.00
How to Pay:
- Cash (sent in with your student in an envelope labeled with their name)
- Check (Payable to Edgerton Trails PTO)
Pick UP and end of day
- Thank you for having your pick up number visible in your car or your person when picking up your student(s). If you get out of your car, please make sure our para recording the numbers sees you and adds your number to the document. This communicates to your student that you are here and waiting.
- We tweaked the time for our grades at the far end of the school so that they will be coming out with the rest of the kids.
- DK and K parents you are welcome to come up to the spot where the DK and K students stand and get your student. We can quickly match numbers and send you on your way.
- This week, I had the Director of Security, Scott Beckman, come to observe our end of the day pick up. He noticed that parents are treating the intersections similar to a four way stop when they leave and he feels that our traffic flow and pick up procedures are secure.
Recess rams and volunteering at Edgerton
We need your help!
Our students need volunteers during lunch and recess. Your involvement makes a significant difference, as research shows children thrive when parents and adults are more engaged.
If you are able to lend a hand, we invite you to sign up for any available time slot(s). Every bit of help counts, and goes a long way toward creating a positive experience for our students.
We appreciate your time, effort, and willingness in helping enrich the experience for our children at Edgerton Trails. Should you have any questions about the volunteer process, please feel free to contact me at your convenience. Thank you!
NOTE: ALL volunteers will have to pass the Rockford Public Schools background check for the 2026-2027 school year and are required to complete the Volunteer Consent Form.
Parent Volunter needed
Mrs. Sedlock (Art Teacher) is looking for a parent or two that could come in 1-2 a month to take pics of artwork for the Artstonia website. If you are interested in helping out please email Mrs. Sedlock at esedlock@rockfordschools.org. You do not need to commit to the whole year only a time or two if that works best for you.

Dear Rockford Families,
Rockford Public Schools is deeply committed to the safety and security of our students, staff, and the community we serve. We view safety as a layered approach—built through community involvement, continued district critical incident training, staff and student engagement, family support, and the use of both physical and technological safeguards. At the heart of this work is strong relationship-building. By collaborating with students, families, staff, and law enforcement partners, we foster a climate of trust that allows every student to learn, grow, and thrive.
In response to new state law signed in January 2025, school districts were required to adopt standardized emergency responses and terminology. To meet this expectation, Rockford Public Schools is partnering with the Kent Intermediate School District and theI Love U Guys Foundation to align our protocols with best practices and provide education across our school community.
The I Love U Guys Foundation has developed the Standard Response Protocol (SRP)—an all-hazards approach designed for urgent situations. The SRP includes developmentally appropriate lessons that classroom teachers will share with students from Preschool through 12th grade in the months ahead.
Students will learn about the following procedures this fall:
● September: Lockdown
● October: Secure and Hold
● November: Shelter and Evacuate
Families are encouraged to learn more about the Standard Response Protocol by visiting the I Love U Guys Foundation Parent Handout. Together, we can ensure our students are prepared, supported, and safe.
The safety of our students is our highest priority. By providing age-appropriate tools and clear procedures, we aim to give students confidence while fostering a strong sense of security in our schools. With your partnership, Rockford Public Schools will continue to build a culture of preparedness, care, and support so that every child can learn and thrive.
We would also like to direct you to the Rockford Public Schools Security Team page on the website for information on Michigan Secure Storage Law https://www.rockfordschools.org/departments/security/. The secure storage law Public Act 17 of 2023 provides information on the requirements and penalties for storing and securing firearms. There is also helpful information from Project ChildSafe on responsible ownership and having a conversation with your children about gun safety. Please take the time to review this information and have conversations with your children about the Standard Response Protocols and gun safety.
