Schools of Choice Programs

IMPORTANT: You must be physically residing at the address which qualifies you for schools of choice at the time of application

Key Points for Both Programs:
  • If selected, we will do our best to place your child at your requested school. However, class sizes may require an alternate placement.
  • Placement may be denied for students who have been suspended, expelled, or convicted of a felony.
  • Once accepted into SOC, there is no need to apply every year as long as you reside in a qualifying district.
  • Transportation is the responsibility of the parent.
  • NEW MHSAA requirements take effect August 1, 2019.  Please contact RPS Athletics at 616-863-6040 if you have questions.

KENT ISD COLLABORATIVE SCHOOLS OF CHOICE

Applications will be accepted starting April 10, 2023 through August 21, 2023, or earlier if all slots are filled.

FOR:  Families who live in one of the 20 Kent ISD school districts but not in the Rockford Public School District

2023-2024 Non-Resident Schools of Choice Form

PLACEMENTS:  We anticipate offering placement to all eligible applicants.

NOTIFICATION OF PLACEMENTS:

  • Applications received by May 12, 2023 will be notified by May 26 of offer of placement. Applicants must confirm acceptance no later than June 2.
  • Applications received after May 12, 2023  are usually notified within two weeks of application.
  • Applicants who submit applications to more than one district may be disqualified from Schools of Choice.

*PLACEMENT LIMITATIONS:

Developmental Kindergarten/Kindergarten:
Developmental Kindergarten is only available to families with household students currently attending Rockford Public Schools.  Out of District students who screen Developmental Kindergarten will not be eligible for enrollment for the 2023-2024 school year.
All DK placements will be at Crestwood Elementary.

12th grade:  no new SOC students will be accepted into 12th grade (current RPS students who have moved out of district may apply).

Valley View Elementary: must already be attending or have sibling currently attending.

North Rockford Middle: must already be attending or have sibling currently attending.

105c SCHOOLS OF CHOICE
Applications will only be accepted for siblings of current 105C Schools of Choice students.  If your family is not currently enrolled through 105C, you are not eligible to apply.  105C Application Form

Applications will be accepted from June 1-16, 2023.

FOR:  Families who live in a school district in the Allegan, Barry, Ionia, Montcalm, Muskegon, Newaygo, or Ottawa intermediate school districts
NUMBER OF OPENINGS:  
25 (only siblings of current 105C Schools of Choice students may apply)
APPLICATION PERIOD:  June 1-16, 2023
PLACEMENTS:  If the district receives more application than slots available, a random lottery will be conducted.  Preference will be given to siblings of current SOC students.
NOTIFICATION OF PLACEMENTS:  Applicants will be notified by June 30, 2023 and must confirm acceptance no later than July 7, 2023.
Special education/504 Plan students for whom a written cooperative agreement regarding costs cannot be obtained with their district of residence will be refused Schools of Choice.

*PLACEMENT LIMITATIONS:

Developmental Kindergarten/Kindergarten:
Developmental kindergarten is only open to families with students already attending the district and placements will be made as long as space is available.
All DK placements will be at Crestwood Elementary.
Children turning five years old on or before April 30, 2023:  Will be placed in kindergarten.
Children turning five years old on May 1 or on or before December 1, 2023: Will be screened to determine eligibility for Schools of Choice.

12th grade:  no new SOC students will be accepted into 12th grade (current RPS students who have moved out of district may apply).
