On September 21, Cannon Township Supervisor Steve Grimm and Dr. Shibler sent a letter regarding MeFOSAA, a byproduct of PFAS, being detected at 15 parts per trillion (ppt) at East Rockford Middle School. See the September 21 joint letter from Rockford Public Schools and Cannon Township here.

As mentioned in that letter, a second sample of water was taken at East RMS.  Those results are now available. Dr. Shibler received the following information from the MDEQ on October 24, 2018:

The first PFAS sample collected on 7/31/2018 was reported out as:

PFOA+PFOS = ND → for comparison, the lifetime health advisory is 70 ppt

MeFOSAA = 15 ppt

Total PFAS = 15 ppt

The results for the resample collected on 9/13/2018 are:

PFOA+PFOS = ND

All other PFAS compounds = ND

Total PFAS = Not Detected

Because the first and second tests are not in alignment with each other, the MDEQ will request a third sample be collected. Those results will be posted when received.
