Superintendent’s Welcome

Dear Rockford Public Schools students, parents, and community members:

I am excited to begin my tenure as your new Superintendent.

The Rockford Public Schools are a wonderful example of the power of a community school district. The Rockford Public Schools knits our community together through a combination of great schools, wonderful programs, and multiple opportunities for our students.

The Rockford Public Schools are one of the premier school districts in the state of Michigan. My goal is to build on the tremendous foundation that is here and to continue to make Rockford a place that families and staff want to be.

A debt of gratitude is owed to Korie Wilson-Crawford who served as the interim Superintendent for the last six months. She continued to guide the district through an uncertain path and has gracefully welcomed me to the district.

A debt of gratitude is also owed to Dr. Michael Shibler who served this community for over 32 years as the Superintendent. Dr. Shibler is well known throughout the state and his tremendous vision and leadership helped to attract a committed and talented staff to Rockford. Together they have built a district that many want to be a part of – myself included.

I look forward to meeting the students, staff, families, and community members here in the Rockford Public Schools. When you see me in a school, at a school activity, or in the community, please say hello. I will welcome you to meet with me throughout the school year in a variety of venues such as coffees and book clubs.

Together we can continue to make the Rockford Public Schools a wonderful place for our children to learn and grow.

Dr. Steve Matthews
Superintendent
