We are pleased to announce that we will again be providing Youth Screen to all NRMS students in grades 6th – 8th grade in December. Rockford has participated in the Youth Screen program for a number of years.

Youth Screen is a mental health screening program that visits local schools throughout Kent County. The program is designed to identify risk factors associated with depression, anxiety, and substance abuse. One out of every five adolescents have symptoms or a diagnosis of depression or anxiety.  In 2016, there were 9 completed suicides in Kent County reported for children who were 19 years old or younger.  In about 95% of the cases, if the risk factors and triggers are caught early, those suicides could have been prevented.

We encourage all parents to give consent for the screening even if there are no concerns noted by the parent. Attached, please find a description of the program and the Parent Consent Form that is due December 12th.

Using the link below, you can learn more about Youth Screen from Mrs. Angie Ohlman, NRMS Counselor. If you have any questions, please call the NRMS counseling office at 863-6313. Thank you for your consideration!
