Meijer Congratulates Roguewood Elementary Students for Third-Place Finish in Global Competition

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Peter Meijer (R-MI) today congratulated seven Roguewood Elementary School students for their third-place finish in last week’s global Odyssey of the Mind competition. Odyssey of the Mind is an international program designed to teach students how to develop and use their natural creativity to become problem solvers. Students who participate experience growth as individual learners and team members.

The third-place winners from Roguewood Elementary School are Leah Mehling, Stella DeBrot, Samantha Bartish, Liam Folsom, Stella Walker, Ryder Krause, and Annalise McNamara. They were coached by Jarrod Folsom and Anne Bartish. Their challenge was to create an original eight-minute musical about a historical figure, and the students chose to highlight Ada Lovelace. Ada Lovelace is considered the first computer programmer due to her realization that the computer can follow a series of simple instructions, a program, to perform a complex calculation. The students named their winning team “Team Ada” after their subject.
